The starting line-up for the 6th Annual Toyota 200 at Southern California’s famed Willow Springs Raceway was established Friday afternoon when Lee Cycle’s Jeremy Toye of San Diego turned in the fastest lap with a 1:20.608, representing an average speed of 111.651mph.
Three Jasons – Jason Pridmore, winner of the inaugural Toyota 200, Jason Curtis, top AMA privateer and 1st round fast qualifier, as well as WSMC top performer Jason Perez, took 2nd through 4th respectively, each with qualifying times in well under 1:22.5.
The 6th Annual Toyota 200 is the feature race of an entire weekend of motorcycle action dubbed “Roadracing’s Richest Weekend.” Over $150,000 in cash and contingencies will be doled out at Willow Springs Raceway this weekend.
Saturday starts off with qualifying for the Roadracing World 250/50 and 33 classes of WSMC club racing followed by an evening of entertainment at the Budweiser Balcony for both fans and racers. Sunday kicks off with grand opening celebrations honoring Vincent Haskovec, Grand Marshall for this year’s event and holder of the fastest lap ever run during a Toyota 200. Roadracing World’s 250/50 will see many of the world’s best riders including five-time 250/50 winner, Rich Oliver competing in the 50 mile challenge for nimble 250cc racers. The Toyota 200 is a no-holds barred, grueling 200 mile contest that challenges both man and machine. The winner receives over $50,000 in prize money, one of the richest prizes in motorcycle roadracing.
Rosamond, CA - Former AMA & WSMC top racer Vincent Haskovec, who still holds the fastest lap record for any Toyota 200 with a 01:21.089 in 2003, has been named Grand Marshal of the 2007 Toyota 200 festivities.
The high-spirited Czech native was seriously injured in an incident at Infineon Raceway in 2005. Since then he has spent much of his time recuperating and going through extensive physical therapy at the Neuro Institute in Tempe, Arizona.
A regular on the AMA circuit and a frequent WSMC racer prior to his accident, Haskovec will be fielding a team of four European racers at the Toyota 200 this year. The team looks forward to making this an annual event.
"We're excited to have Vincent honor us with his presence," said Willow Springs General Manager Stephanie Huth. "His great spirit and unwavering positive attitude is an inspiration to all who know him."
